Ingredients

  • 1 medium spaghetti squash (whole or halved)
  • ½ cup water (optional, for whole squash)
  • Optional: olive oil, salt, and pepper for seasoning

Instructions

  • Prepare the Squash: For Whole Squash: Rinse the squash, pat it dry, and pierce the skin several times with a fork or knife to allow steam to escape. For Halved Squash: Slice the squash lengthwise, scoop out the seeds, and optionally brush the cut sides with olive oil.
  • Set Up the Crockpot: For Whole Squash: Place the squash in the crockpot, adding ½ cup of water or broth to the bottom to create steam. For Halved Squash: Place the halves cut-side up or down, depending on your preference for caramelization.
  • Cook on Low or High: Low Setting: Cook for 5-6 hours. High Setting: Cook for 3-4 hours.
  • Check for Doneness: The squash is ready when a knife easily pierces the skin, and the flesh can be fluffed into strands with a fork.
  • Finish and Serve: If cooked whole, allow it to cool slightly, then cut it open, remove seeds, and fluff the strands with a fork. Season with salt, pepper, or your favorite toppings, and enjoy!

Notes

Cooking times may vary based on the size of the squash and desired texture. For firmer strands, reduce cooking time slightly.
