Ingredients

  • 3 large English cucumbers
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  • Wash cucumbers thoroughly and pat dry. Cut cucumbers into 1/8-inch thick rounds. Place sliced cucumbers in a colander, sprinkle with kosher salt, and let stand for 10 minutes.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, white wine vinegar, and sugar until smooth. Add chopped fresh dill, garlic powder, and black pepper, and whisk until uniform.
  • Slice the red onion as thinly as possible. For milder flavor, soak sliced onions in cold water for 5 minutes, then drain and pat dry.
  • Rinse the salted cucumbers under cold running water to remove excess salt. Gently squeeze the cucumbers to remove moisture.
  • Add the dried cucumbers and sliced onions to the bowl with the dressing. Gently fold the ingredients together until well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Ensure to salt the cucumbers to draw out excess moisture. Use full-fat ingredients for the best texture and flavor. Combine ingredients just before chilling to maintain optimal texture.
