Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumi
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 lime, squeezed
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 to 10 corn or flour tortillas

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add diced onions and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until translucent. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Add ground turkey to the skillet, breaking it into small crumbles. Cook until no pink remains, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Sprinkle chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper over the turkey. Stir well and add tomato paste, cooking for one minute.
  • Pour in chicken broth and reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer for 3 to 5 minutes until the mixture is moist.
  • Squeeze in fresh lime juice, stir, and remove from heat.
  • Warm tortillas in a dry skillet or over a low flame for a few seconds per side.
  • Assemble tacos by spooning turkey mixture into tortillas and adding desired toppings.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add diced chipotle pepper in adobo sauce. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days.
