Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 cup ketchup or canned tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (or molasses)
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 soft hamburger buns or sandwich rolls

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onion (and bell pepper, if using) to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, combine ketchup or tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  • Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and vegetables in the skillet. Stir to coat evenly. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10–15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the mixture to thicken.
  • Spoon the meat mixture onto hamburger buns or sandwich rolls. Serve hot.
